I Want to Meditate

I Want to Meditate but Where Do I Begin? — Devanshu Dalmia

A Clear Framework from a Fellow Seeker

Most people don't avoid meditation because they doubt its value. They avoid it because they don't know where to begin. This book changes that.

Hi, I'm Devanshu Dalmia

I'm the author of I Want to Meditate but Where Do I Begin? — a debut book that I wrote because I needed it and couldn't find it. It's the beginner's guide I wish had existed when I first started to explore meditation.

I came to meditation not as a monk or mystic, but as a strategy professional under pressure: navigating demanding corporate roles, tight timelines, and the relentless cognitive load of modern professional life. Meditation became my anchor, and eventually, my secret to a calmer, more focused life.

Inside the Book — Four Questions

"This book is a continuation of my journey. And maybe, just maybe, it can become the start of yours."

— Devanshu Dalmia, from the Preface

Built for the analytical mind
that wants to believe

Packed with structure, grounded in science, and written from lived experience — this is the beginner's guide to meditation that finally makes it accessible.

Science Meets Spirituality

Starting with foundational concepts from physics, the book builds a bridge between analytical thinking and ancient wisdom — so your rational mind can actually believe what it's reading.

A Clear Framework, Not Noise

A simple three-step meditation framework: Preparation → Turning Inward → Focused Awareness, provides a structured approach to building a meditation ritual which you can follow everyday.

Written for Modern Professionals

Devanshu came to meditation not as a monk but as a strategy consultant under pressure. He writes for people navigating demanding careers who quietly sense there must be a calmer way to live.

A Fellow Seeker, Not a Guru

Devanshu is refreshingly honest: he's not enlightened and doesn't claim to be. He shares his own personal meditation journey, his learnings, information about his teachers — and this honesty is the book's greatest strength.

From Zero to One

This is intentionally a starting guide — the beginner's 101 that Devanshu wishes he had when he first sat down to meditate. No advanced concepts, no overwhelming jargon. Just a solid foundation.

Tangible, Everyday Benefits

Beyond the spiritual, the book covers measurable practical benefits: becoming more joyful, developing sharper focus, cultivating fearlessness, and understanding how meditation supports manifestation.

Four questions.
One clear path forward.

The book is structured around the four questions Devanshu was trying to answer when he first set out to understand meditation. Each section builds on the last, taking you from why to what and all the way to the how.

01

Chapter One

Why Should I Meditate?

Before you can commit to a practice, you need to understand what you're actually doing when you close your eyes. This chapter demystifies the ultimate goal of meditation. Starting with a gentle introduction to quantum physics, it then explores the human body through a spiritual lens, and finally arrives at the deepest purpose of meditation: recognising your true nature as pure awareness.

02

Chapter Two

What Benefits Will Meditation Bring Me?

Once you understand the why, the rational mind wants proof. This chapter explores meditation's benefits through two lenses: the transformational everyday impact and the deeper spiritual perspective. The everyday benefits alone, Devanshu argues, are powerful enough to justify the practice. The spiritual dimension is the gift that comes with time.

03

Chapter Three

Where Does Yoga Fit into All of This?

"Yoga" has become synonymous with physical exercise, but its deeper essence is almost entirely about the path to meditation. This chapter attempts to demystify yoga and while doing so, it leans on ancient wisdom to develop a systematic three-step framework which can be used to build a daily meditation ritual.

04

Chapter Four

How Should I Meditate?

With the why, what, and context in place, this chapter teaches you the how. Leaning on his experience, Devanshu presents techniques and practices in each step of the three-step meditation framework. He also tries to provide the meaning behind the different practices to enable the rational mind to believe in it. The chapter also covers how long to meditate, the best time of day, and how to build a sustainable daily practice.

Commercial & Strategy Professional · First-Time Author · Meditation Practitioner

I'm a commercial and strategy professional with over a decade of experience in high-pressure corporate environments. I hold an MBA from London Business School and an engineering degree from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. Based in Amsterdam, I've lived and worked in seven countries.

My journey with meditation began in 2020 — during a period when I couldn't sleep, my body was falling apart, and I was navigating a struggling family business at the height of COVID-19. I was twenty-eight but felt sixty. A performance coach led me through a guided meditation that brought a deep sense of calm, and that got me excited about this space.

From there I started reading, attending retreats, visiting ashrams. Slowly, something began to shift. Today, meditation is my daily anchor — the thing that helps me stay clear-headed, focused, and grounded amid the demands of a fast-moving corporate career.

I wrote this book because I needed it and couldn't find it. It's the beginner's guide I wish had existed when I first asked, "I want to meditate, but where do I begin?"

Well structured, all what you need to know, great inspiration!

It's a great book, gives simple yet powerful 101 about meditation. It helps to understand what it is all about, what to expect and how to start. I've been occasionally trying meditating for the last 10 years, reading many books. This one really gave me all what I need and really inspired me to take it seriously — I wish someone would give it to me years ago. Highly recommend to read if you are curious about meditation.

Needed on your bookshelf

In today's world I really needed this book on my bookshelf. This book is a calm, clear, and genuinely welcoming introduction to meditation. It doesn't try to overwhelm you with jargon or make the practice feel mystical or difficult; instead, it keeps things grounded and simple, which makes it much easier for a beginner to actually start. What I liked most was how accessible it feels — less like a lecture and more like a gentle guide from someone who understands what it's like to be new to this. If you've ever wanted to try meditation but didn't know where to begin, this is the kind of book that makes the first step feel manageable.

The meditation book that finally made sense to me

A genuinely calming and practical introduction to meditation. What I loved most is that the book doesn't try to sound overly spiritual or complicated. It feels honest, grounded, and written by someone who truly understands the hesitation beginners face. Instead of giving lofty promises, it offers a simple and realistic way to build meditation into everyday life. By the end, meditation felt approachable rather than intimidating. A thoughtful read for anyone who wants to begin but doesn't know where to start.
